
Dr. Agnes Jonathan
Dr. Agnes Jonathan is a board-certified Clinical Scientist and Public Health and Management Specialist with extensive experience in program leadership and governance, health systems strengthening, and global health partnerships. She serves as the Program Manager for the Sickle Cell Program at MUHAS and for the SickleInAfrica-SPARCO Clinical Coordinating Center and SPARCO-Tanzania, funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), coordinating multi-country sickle cell initiatives across eight African nations. She has successfully managed multimillion-dollar NIH and donor grants and worked closely with ministries of health, Africa CDC, WHO, ASH, Texas Children’s Hospital Global HOPE, civil society, and patient organizations to integrate SCD care into national health systems.
Dr. Jonathan holds degrees in Medicine, Public Health, and an MBA in Corporate Management, with professional certifications in Project Management (PMP®) and Directorship. She has led the expansion of the national SCD registry to over 8,000 patients and the regional registry to more than 40,000, trained over 3,000 healthcare workers, expanded SCD clinics from secondary to primary healthcare level, and co-authored 20+ peer-reviewed publications. She also serves as Technical Coordinator for the Africa CDC SCD Technical Working Group, a Mentor under the GANSID Mentorship Program, and a reviewer for The Lancet Hematology, PLOS Global Public Health, and Clinical Epidemiology.
