Dr. Yigal Dror
Dr. Yigal Dror is a clinician-scientist, Head of the Bone Marrow Failure and Myelodysplasia Program and past Head of the Haematology Section at SickKids. He is an expert in bone marrow failure syndromes, myelodysplastic syndrome and hematopoiesis. Ribosomopathy and Shwachman- Diamond Syndrome have been long-standing research interests of his lab. The Dror lab has made major contributions to understanding the pathogenesis of hematopoietic failure in several inherited bone marrow failure disorders at the cellular and molecular level. His lab has also utilized genomic strategies to discover novel genes and pathways underlying bone marrow failure to be able to characterize the genetic lesion’s impact on phenotype.
Dr. Dror leads the Canadian Inherited Marrow Failure Registry Network and the Canadian Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Study Network. The networks are composed of multiple paediatric and adult clinician investigators from the largest paediatric and adult haematology/oncology centres in Canada across all its provinces. The network contributed to various studies that shed light on clinical features, genetic basis, diagnostic tools, pathobiology, mechanism of leukemia, and treatment of specific subgroups of bone marrow failure syndromes.
