Prof. Adekunle Adekile
Dr. Adekile graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Hematology at Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC, USA. He was a Fogarty International Fellow in Molecular Genetics at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA, USA. Until recently, he was a Professor at Kuwait University, Kuwait. He is an Adjunct Professor at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, and the University of Abuja, Nigeria.
He was the Founding Chairman of the Nigerian Sickle Cell Disease Network and the Sickle Cell Support Society of Nigeria. Dr. Adekile’s expertise is in the clinical, hematological, and molecular aspects of SCD in patients with the high HbF phenotype. He served as a consultant to WHO/AFRO on the management of SCD in Africa. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of HEMOGLOBIN, the International Journal of Hemoglobin Research, and the Chairman of the Board of GANSID.
