Anthony Defor
Anthony Mawuena Kojo Defor is a leading patient advocate and a courageous voice for the global sickle cell disease (SCD) community. Born in Accra, Ghana, and diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia (HbSS), his childhood was shaped by the constant challenges of chronic pain and hospitalizations. The loss of his older sister to complications of SCD became a defining moment that solidified his lifelong commitment to advocacy. Despite these challenges, Anthony’s resilience and determination continue to inspire many within the global SCD community.
Anthony holds an Advanced Diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communications and currently works as a Credit Risk Manager while pursuing his Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) designation. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, most notably his girlfriend, Chloe, exploring nature, and creating artistic content such as music and videos. He is honored to share his story and challenge the global community to move from awareness to definitive action. Anthony hopes and dreams of a world where no individual born and living with sickle cell has to experience the complications of the disease, and pain is a thing of the past.
