Elizabeth S. Klings, MD

Dr. Elizabeth Klings is a Professor of Medicine, Director of Clinical Research, Center for Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Center at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Her research and clinical interests have focused on pulmonary vascular complications of sickle cell disease for more than two decades. ClinicalIy, she was the lead author of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) sponsored Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of PH in SCD, co-led an ATSworkshop to identify clinical and research priorities in sickle cell lung disease and currently is co-chairing a committee to develop a ATS sponsored clinical statement on the definition, diagnosis and severity classification of acute chest syndrome in sickle cell disease. Her current NIH funded research focuses on using real world data to understand optimal treatment strategies for patients with SCD who sustain a venous thromboembolism. She has more than 70 SCD related publications and is excited to be participating in this Congress.
