Dr. Heena Tabassum is a Scientist E in the Division of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India. She obtained her Ph.D. in Toxicology from Hamdard University and has over 20 years of research experience in toxicology, neuroscience, translational research, and public health. Since joining ICMR in 2017, she has coordinated several national research programmes, including initiatives in nanomedicine, venous thromboembolism, and sickle cell disease. She has played a key role in establishing the National Hospital-based Registry on Venous Thromboembolic Disorders and in the validation of indigenous point-of-care diagnostic technologies for sickle cell disease under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission. Dr. Tabassum has published more than 65 peer-reviewed research articles with an H-index of 28 and has received several national and international awards, including the Best Woman Scientist Award from the Society of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists, India. Her current research interests include sickle cell disease, venous thromboembolism, implementation of point-of-care diagnostics, and translational research to strengthen evidence-based healthcare in India.
