Dr Padma G
Molecular Geneticist
Dr. Padma G is a molecular geneticist with extensive expertise in the diagnosis, research, and prevention of inherited blood disorders, particularly thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. She currently serves as the Head of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society, where she oversees diagnostic services, leads research initiatives, and functions as an authorised signatory for genetic reports. With over 18 years of research experience, her work spans molecular genetics, bioinformatics, and clinical research coordination.
Her early scientific contributions at Osmania University focused on genetic determinants of essential hypertension, DNA repair mechanisms in age-related cataracts, and the molecular basis of congenital hearing impairment. Since 2018, her research has increasingly centred on hemoglobinopathies, contributing to antenatal and cascade screening programs, development of diagnostic technologies, and assessment of iron overload in thalassemia. She has played key roles in multi-centre clinical studies, including trials on nutraceuticals for sickle cell disease and pharmacokinetic evaluations of emerging therapeutics such as Luspatercept.
Dr. Padma has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including landmark contributions on ฮฒ-thalassemia and SCD models, sequencing-based screening approaches, and novel genetic variants. Through her scientific leadership and commitment to community-based screening, she continues to advance the goal of early detection, improved management, and prevention of inherited blood disorders in India.
