Dr. Sophia Delicou is a leading expert in the diagnosis and management of hemoglobinopathies, with over 20 years of clinical and research experience in Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Disease, and transfusion medicine. She serves as Head of both the Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Unit and the Expertise Center of Hemoglobinopathies and Their Complications at Hippokrateio General Hospital in Athens, where she leads a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care to patients across Greece.
Dr. Delicou has played a key role in shaping national and international clinical guidelines and has pioneered the use of advanced diagnostic tools and personalized treatment strategies to reduce complications such as alloimmunization and iron overload. As Chair of the Red Cell & Hemoglobinopathies Committee of the Hellenic Society of Hematology, she promotes awareness, clinician education, and public health initiatives on rare anemias.
