
Dr Dipty Jain

Dr. Dipty Jain is a distinguished pediatrician and hematology expert dedicated to advancing care for sickle cell disease (SCD) in India and globally. She completed her MBBS and MD at Nagpur University and earned a Master’s in Medicine at McMaster University, Canada, as a Rockefeller Fellow. She began her academic career at Government Medical College, Nagpur, in 1984 and served as Professor and Head of Pediatrics from 2006 to 2022.
A pioneer in SCD care, Dr. Jain established India’s first Center of Excellence for SCD at Government Medical College, Nagpur. Her work has shaped context-specific treatment approaches, including low-dose hydroxyurea, newborn screening, and transcranial Doppler implementation. She has also contributed to research on the Arab-Indian haplotype and the development of national care models and policies.
In 2023, she was appointed Chairperson of India’s National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission Task Force. She is actively involved in global collaborations and has authored over 100 publications. Dr. Jain is a recipient of the 2024 Ham Wasserman Lecture Award from the American Society of Hematology.
