
Dr. Caterina Minniti
Professor Emerita of Medicine & Pediatrics; Sickle Cell Disease Specialist
Dr. Minniti is a Professor Emerita of Medicine and Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Health Services, Bethesda, MD. She previously led the Sickle Cell Center for Adults at Montefiore Medical Center and the Red Cell Disorder Center at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC.
A clinical trial specialist and translational researcher, Dr. Minniti has contributed to major studies that advanced treatments for sickle cell disease (SCD), including transfusion therapy, hydroxyurea use in infants, and newer therapies such as voxelotor and HbF inducers. Her work focuses on understanding mechanisms of organ damage in SCD to identify early biomarkers and targeted therapies.
Her research spans stroke, pulmonary hypertension, and leg ulcers, aiming to develop prevention and treatment strategies. She is internationally recognized, affiliated with the Global Sickle Cell Alliance, and has authored nearly 200 peer-reviewed publications. Her contributions have been recognized by leading hematology organizations and patient advocacy groups.
