Prof. Emmanuel Balandya is a physician-scientist, currently faculty at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania. He obtained his MD at the University of Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania (2005); Ph.D. at Dartmouth College, USA (2012), and Postdoc at Harvard Medical School, USA (2014).
He is PI of the NIH/NHLBI-funded Sickle Pan-African Research Consortium (SPARCO)-Tanzania (U01 HL156853) and is interim PI of the SPARCO-Clinical Coordinating Centre (U01 HL135881), overseeing coordination of research studies within the SickleInAfrica Consortium comprising Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa.
He is also a Co-Investigator in several ongoing health research and education capacity-building projects at MUHAS. He has been published and presented his work at national and international platforms. Prof. Balandya is Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of academics at MUHAS and is a scientific reviewer for Tanzania Journal of Health Research (TJHR), Allergologia et Immunopathologia, Lancet Haematology, Journal of Community Genetics, PLOS ONE and PNAS.
