
Dr. Suman Jain
Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary
Dr. Suman Jain is a pediatrician and public health researcher with over two decades of experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of hemoglobinopathies, particularly thalassemia and sickle cell disease. She currently serves as the Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary at the Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Society (TSCS), Hyderabad. In this role, she leads clinical research, patient care programs, and large-scale screening initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for affected patients and preventing the birth of children with severe genetic blood disorders.
Dr. Jain completed her MBBS from Calcutta University in 1985 and obtained a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Mumbai, in 1991. Over the course of her career, she has worked with several prominent institutions including the LEPRA Society Blue Peter Research Centre, the Institute of Genetics at Osmania University, and the National Institute for Mentally Handicapped.
Her research focuses on genetic screening, prenatal diagnosis, molecular diagnostics, and innovative therapeutic strategies for hemoglobin disorders. She has been actively involved in multiple collaborative projects related to gene editing, genomic diagnostics, and disease burden studies in thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Dr. Jain has authored numerous scientific publications in reputed national and international journals and has contributed to global studies on hemoglobinopathies.
She has received several recognitions, including international travel support from the Indian Council of Medical Research and the prestigious Renzo Galanello Fellowship from the Thalassaemia International Federation, where she underwent advanced training at University College London Hospitals, UK.
