GANSID Roundtable at ASH

Delaware, USA: In-Person Round Table Meeting of the Leaders of the Hereditary Blood Disorders Organizations at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Conference – Dec 9-12, 2023

The GANSID Roundtable meeting, championed by the Global Action Network for Sickle Cell Disease and Other Inherited Blood Disorders (GANSID) as a follow-up to the #GANSIDCongress2023, is a collaborative drive to address the dire challenges of the Hereditary Blood Disorders (HBDs) community.

Hereditary Blood Disorders (HBDs) are serious, non-malignant blood diseases associated with significant morbidity and mortality. HBDs include conditions such as Thalassemia, Hemophilia, and Sickle Cell Disease. These conditions require early diagnosis and prompt implementation of preventative and comprehensive therapies to bring down the high morbidity and mortality rates associated with these diseases among the affected people, especially those living in low and medium-resource countries. People with inherited blood disorders not only have reduced lifespans compared to the average population but also typically have limited access to effective comprehensive care and treatment essential for their well-being.

The GANSID roundtable meeting will take place during the upcoming American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition, a deliberate venue choice. ASH represents the largest professional society of hematologists concerned with clinical and research advances in causes and treatments of blood disorders.

Invited to the Roundtable are Global Inherited Blood Disorders community leaders, people with lived hereditary diseases experiences, healthcare providers, healthcare provider organizations, and industry partners.

Key industry partners supporting the roundtable event and GANSID’s mission for the Hereditary Blood Disorders community include Vertex Inc which invests in scientific innovation to create transformative medicines for people with serious diseases, Roche Inc which is focused on utilizing data-based insights to evolve the practice of medicine and help patients live longer, better lives and Pfizer Inc that is relentlessly in pursuit of scientific breakthroughs and revolutionary medicines that will create a healthier world for everyone.
