World Inherited Blood Disorders Day 2026
October 18 | A Global Day for Awareness, Recognition and Action
World Inherited Blood Disorders Day, observed annually on October 18, is an opportunity for people around the world to come together to raise awareness, strengthen understanding, and recognize the experiences of people living with inherited blood disorders.
Inherited blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and other haemoglobin disorders affect individuals, families, and communities across the globe. Yet, many people continue to face gaps in awareness, access to care, diagnosis, treatment, research, and support.
GANSID advocates for October 18 to be recognized as World Inherited Blood Disorders Day in countries around the world, helping create greater visibility and encouraging governments, healthcare systems, organizations, communities, and individuals to recognize the importance of inherited blood disorders as a global health priority.
Be Part of the Movement
This October, we invite everyone- individuals, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, advocates, researchers, communities, and partner organizations to take part.
To help you participate, GANSID has developed a World Inherited Blood Disorders Day Toolkit with resources that can be adapted and shared within your communities and networks.
Tie Red. Flex Arm.
Join the global campaign by wearing or tying a red ribbon around your arm to show solidarity with people living with inherited blood disorders and help make October 18 visible around the world.
Use the Sample Advocacy Letter
The toolkit also includes a sample advocacy letter that organizations can adapt and send to their governments or relevant authorities, encouraging recognition of October 18 as World Inherited Blood Disorders Day in their country.
